Maria and her staff offer golf instruction year round in the St. Louis area.  During the off season and cold months lessons are offered at the Big Bend Golf Center (Valley Park/Kirkwood, MO) where there are heaters and wind shields inside the covered tee box and at Elevated Performance (Des Peres, MO) where there is an indoor hitting bay with a net.

The off season is the best time to make major changes to your game and technique as you aren't out playing as much.  This gives you more time for practice and keeps you less concerned about score and more concerned with making changes.  To help golfers maintain their progress during the off season Maria and her staff offer a yearly Winter Maintenance Program that runs November - February and offers the student a mix of private lessons and group clinics covering various aspects of the game, indoor drills and golf fitness.

Which location is best for you?

Indoor Instruction (available with Maria only)
Hitting indoors is actually the preference of many golf instructors as the student is not allowed to see ball flight.  This allows the student to focus more on their technique and making changes rather than being results oriented and trying to rush the learning process. With the use of mirrors and video analysis, every part of your game can be improved indoors (with the exception of sand and trouble shots of course!).  The comfort of not having cold hands and being bulked up with clothing can help facilitate the learning process as well.  Note that driver is not allowed indoors.

Indoor lessons are available only on Sunday mornings - December through March so be sure to schedule accordingly.  As a general rule if it's below 35 degrees Maria might teach indoors, but she is flexible and tries to fit in students where they want to be.

*Just as the driving range will charge you for balls, Elevated Performance will charge you a $8 per half hour hitting bay fee.  (Cash only)

Outdoor Winter Instruction
Hitting outdoors in the winter time is easily done at the Big Bend Golf Center.  The practice facility offers wind blockers, heaters and a fully covered tee line.  Hitting outdoors of course, allows you see the ball flight and get feedback.  This is sometime desirable, but actually not always as you can become too results oriented.  If the main thing you want to work on is driver or woods, outdoors is the choice for you.

What to Wear:

Indoors:
If you are taking lessons indoors at Elevated Performance jeans, sweats, work out clothes, etc. are all appropriate.  Once you get swinging a short sleeve shirt is all you will need.  Please wear tennis shoes, but soft spikes are o.k. as well (as long as they are clean).

Outdoors:
If you are taking lessons outdoors in the winter time at Big Bend I highly recommend a knit cap and Under Armour/long underwear.  Wear many layers to shed because once you get swinging you will get warm.  Hand warms are great to stick in your pockets to warm your hands between shots and they also feel good in your shoes!  Tennis shoes or golf shoes are appropriate.

WINTER GOLF PROGRAM

"I really enjoyed the program and feel much better prepared for the season than if I had done nothing all winter or just practiced on my own.  All the sessions were good with an excellent mix of group instruction and individual coaching.  I’m putting all of your handouts in a binder so I can refer to them throughout the year.  Thanks!"   - Elizabeth Boone
